2010 Girls Camp

2010 Girls Camp was fun! This is the crew just before we got loaded up in vehicles to head up to Kolob for an eventful time!

Our shirts turned out so cute! We were waiting to go on stage for our skit. The theme this year was "Sailing Home"
The bishopric... Bishop stayed with us all week long. Chris and Brother Hooten came up Friday night and then came back up Saturday morning to rescue us- it rained Friday night- they barely made it out of there when they left that night so they came back Saturday and helped us pack up and get out of there before it started to rain again
Saturday morning as we were cleaning up- Shania is doing a wonderful job- as well as all the other girls! haha! They did help- I just caught them at a moment of goofing off!

2010 Senior Cruise

Chris and I went as chaperons on the Senior Cruise. It was not a sponsored trip through the High School- the kids had to sign up on their own and find their own chaperons. We took Jacob Pugh and Braden with us, Cheyanne Benson also rode down and back with us. We had tons of fun! All the kids were well-behaved, even the little delinquents!!! (due to a senior prank some of the boys were booked into jail and now have a criminal record)

The entertainment was always very good- they wouldn't let us take pictures so I only got a few of the shows...

Catalina Island

The "bruisers showed up" they rented bikes for $5 an hour and drove around Catalina Island- as much as they could see in an hour that is!

My favorite part was para-sailing on Catalina Island... it was so fun! They just let us up from the boat and brought us right back down to the boat- it was so smooth you didn't even know you were going up or coming down, and we didn't even get wet!!! We saw a pack of about 20 dolphins jumping and playing in the water while we were up there- our guides told us that was the first time they had seen dolphins all day!

The Cruise Ship at night looked amazing! Here's Jake Payne, Jordan Langston, Braden, and Ian Gates at "Formal Night"

In Ensenada we just got off the boat and shopped. I had a little shopping buddy: Cheyanne Benson, she had her list made up before hand and we found everything she needed and more!

Night time on the Ship

We loved to go to Karaoke after the shows... we even had some of our own celebrities sing: April Gates, Tyler Howard, and Brittney Stackhouse

Every night when we got back to the room the famous Carnival towel animals would be waiting for us along with an agenda for the next days activities.

I think everyone had a good time- we only had security come to our room once looking for Braden- he and Tim Long had gotten into a little yelling fight and the neighbors called in- they had to come and make sure Braden was OK and that Tim's story was true. They also had a "flashing" incident: one of the boys, Brecken, had gone out his cabin door with a robe on over his clothes and he "flashed" another boy down the hall- a 10 year old girl saw it and went crying to her dad- he came down and got in Kylynn Iverson's face yelling at him- security was called and all was calmed down. Kylynn and Anderson Rich really got into the "gambling" thing- they were winning way too much so they felt like they needed to keep going and winning! I don't know how they ended up doing, but at one time Kylynn was up like $150.

I really didn't take a whole lot of pictures- I'm sad about that now! Oh well!

2010 Graduation

The graduating class of 2010 from HHS was about 225 students! That's more than double than graduated with me in 1989! Braden had a lot of really good friends- they were definitely a class to remember! Braden was the only one in his class that graduated with a Nursing Pathway Completion (the ropes)
This is right after seminary graduation- he had to work hard to graduate... he had about 23 hours of make-up to do since seminary was an easy class to sluff!!! I hope that he will realize the significance of getting it done! (and of mom nagging him to get it done!) He did make-up the work- and I'm very proud of him for doing it!
Kylynn Iverson, Jeff Staples, and Braden before graduation
Braden and Marcy Isom (his ex-girlfriend) It's good they can still be friends! She is a beautiful girl!
The family after graduation- Kyler, Chris, Braden, Kathy, and Shania. (I've been having some troubles with my eye lately- I don't know what is going on... but I was having a hard time keeping my eyes open that day.) Plus lack of sleep doesn't help! It has been a very fun but EXHAUSTING week! Braden and about 16 of his friends (more but they haven't fessed up!) decided to do a senior prank at the high school about a week before graduation. They had stolen the key to the school from one of the dads that works at the school, they went in and were going to chain up the doors from the inside so that when people came to the school the next day they couldn't get in- anyways to make a long story short- the cops showed up, the boys ran, 2 were caught- the boys all turned themselves in which resulted in 5 being arrested and booked into purgatory... they (HPD) started telling the boys to go home and they would deal with them the next day because they didn't have enough man-power to book them all that night... Braden was hand-cuffed and hauled out to the police car from school the next day. As he was sitting in the police car the City Attorney called and said they were dropping the Class A misdemeanor charge, so these boys didn't need to be booked. It resulted in the boys all being suspended from school for the rest of the school year (about 7 days) and they weren't going to let them walk for graduation- after a parent meeting with the principal he decided that it was punishing the parents and family to not let them walk, so he went ahead and let up on that! (Thank You, Mr. Pederson!) The boys were excluded from H-Day, Senior Sneak, and any other school functions... but they had their own senior sneak as they were together going to movies, swimming, sleeping, dunk-ball tournaments, etc... all week long! A few of them came over to our house and decorated their caps the night before graduation and were here until midnight... Grad night went on the next night until 5 AM, so I'm in need of some rest! After the senior cruise!!!!

2010 Border League Champions

After 2 very close games we pulled it out and are still the reigning border league champions... 2 years in a row now! We beat Desert Hills (B team) first off pretty handily, but the next 2 games came down to the wire. Shania swiped a shot out of the girls hand that would have sent us into overtime with Desert Hills (A team) and we beat Dixie in over time by a missed basket at the buzzer by Dixie... Girls from back row left to right: Shania, Charly Billings, Kaity Schear, Ciara Stratton, front: Rachel, (don't know her last name) McKell Isom, Brooklyn Gubler, Madison Hall, and Sela (can't spell her last name)
Playing against the Desert Hills A team- they have 2 really tall girls, and just alot of talent on their team!
Time out: Coach Hurst is giving them the low-down (he is actually the assistant coach- Amy Gubler was the head coach)
Championship game against Dixie- they have a very talented team also... this was a hard-fought game, but in the end we prevailed!
The Champions!!!

2010 Prom

This year I had 2 boys going to prom... I tried to talk them into going together, but understandably Braden and his group of friends all wanted to go together for their senior year! I wasn't as involved with Braden's as Kyler's. Both groups went 4 wheeling for their day-dates, and Braden's group went out to dinner at Chili's. Kyler's group came to my house for dinner.
We had bacon-wrapped filets, "funeral potatoes", salad, rolls, and sorbets for dessert. I LOVE that my boys let me be involved in their dances and their lives... I LOVE their friends, (that call me "mama Hurst" or just "mom") and most of all (even though they are BIG STINKERS sometimes) I LOVE my boys!!!
Here is Kyler's group just before heading out the door to the dance... boys: Justin Post, (J.P.) Kyler, Cody Langford, Duncan Alger, and Parker Manuell (Park-dizzle) girls: Presley Steglich, Tia Smith, Taryn Desatoff, a girl from St. George, (I don't remember her name) and Britainy Pritchard
Kyler and his date: Tia Smith
Braden and his date: Natasha Frampton
